Last month I went to Rote a few days before the ISC event to try out my boards and get a feel for the wave. I always have a good time there, it's super laid back and worth checking out if you ever get the chance. I stayed at my friend Axel's place (Boa Hills Eco-Surf House) and got some fun windy waves before the rest of the competitors showed up. I was lucky in a way because they all got delayed in Kupang due to the winds, so I had it to myself for two extra days :)
