Kids Shred at the Magic Wave Billabong Grommet Series No.2
Last Sunday saw the second event of the Magic Wave Billabong Grommet Series go down at Halfway, Kuta Beach in fun grom-sized conditions.
The morning started with a circular group prayer to bless the event and ensure that the contestants enjoyed a fun, safe, and successful day. With that done the horn blew and the kids hit the water to shred; those that weren't prepping for heats got to participate in fun beach activities such as snake petting and free health check-ups! The two probably go hand-in-hand.
These contests are open to kids under 14 years of age, include boys and girls divisions, and even feature "pushing" heats for those kids so tiny they can't get their arms over the rails. Locals, expats and visitors surf together, enhancing the community vibe that the organizers have done well to create and maintain. Dropping in is common but nobody takes it too seriously, it's called sharing.
Like all contests there are winners and non-winners. Rio won the blue ribbon U/14 boys division, and Billabong-sponsored Julika won the ladies. Full results below.
