Behind the Lens: Jason Reposar

Since getting his foot in the door at Transworld SURF magazine in the late 90's, 'Repo' traveled the globe for years on end and finally settled in Bali, where he has become a widely liked and well respected surf and fashion shooter. When the surf is pumping he'll be anywhere from Nias to Supersuck, but if it's flat you'll most likely find him rubbing shoulders with designers and models at one of Seminyak's trendy beach clubs.

A selection of Repo's Indonesian surf images can now be viewed on the Balibelly.tv photo page. Choose his name from the drop down menu to view them all. To see his fashion stuff be sure go to reposarphoto.com - his colourful background story alone is worth the visit!

Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm an English born photographer traveling the world and photographing things that interest me. I love surfing, music and women.

What brought you to Bali?
I spend a lot of my time in Bali because of the many surf spots and surfers that visit here. It's also a beautiful place with beautiful people and culture.

What magazine's / websites do you contribute to most often?
Im a freelance photographer these days so I contribute to the magazines that pay on time and are supportive. In the past I've been published in over 30 magazines worldwide.

Where are your favourite waves to shoot in Indo?
I find myself shooting at Keramas a lot. I think I haven't found a favourite wave in indo to shoot yet. I want to shoot them all before I make that call.

Who are your favourite surfers to work with?
I will work with any surfer who will get some editorial play in the glossys. I like to shoot guys that surf well and aren't afraid to go big. Being cool and easy going is a big plus too. I can't stand over inflated egos.

What's the best part of being a photographer?
The freedom to explore the world and the things that interest me.

The hardest part of your job?
Getting paid a fair price for my services.

What type of cameras do you typically shoot with?
I use all Canon equipment. Mostly a mark4 and 5D Mark2

What separates you from your peers?
Attitude and who I am as a person. My personality shows through my photographs.

Have you found yourself in any heavy situations shooting in Indo?
I almost drowned at Desert Point once but that's because I smoke to much.

What's your favourite local meal?
Pussy

Any travel tips for surfers coming to Bali?
